Star Wars Republic Commando is now available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games today announced that the popular first-person shooter is now available for digital purchase on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for $14.99.
Originally released for X-Box and Windows in 2005, the game is now available for a new generation of gamers. Upon its initial release, the game received high marks—including a solid 78/100 on Metacritic and an 8.6/10 user rating.
In response to its re-release, Polygon reviewed the game, saying that, “I happily played Republic Commando on a Switch Lite and enjoyed every minute. It felt great to be back in Delta Squad.”
Watch the game’s trailer here:
Set during The Clone Wars, the game sets players as the leader of an elite squad of cloned Republic Commandos. As a tactical shooter, players lead a squad, following both orders and working together as a team. The action takes place over the three-year span of The Clone Wars throughout various locations in the Star Wars universe, including Geonosis, Kashyyyk, and the derelict spacecraft Prosecutor.
The game is no longer canon. However, it was the inspiration for Dave Filoni when he created the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Many themes and touch points of the game are also similar to the upcoming Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The Disney+ show comes out on May 4, 2021, and will feature an elite squad of cloned Republic soldiers.

It’s been almost two years since the last Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker. Still, the franchise is having a bit of a heyday with the critically acclaimed The Mandalorian on Disney+ and a number of upcoming projects. Most recently, Lucasfilm released the casting for Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi to lots of positivity from fans.
Lucasfilm Games is also planning to re-release LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which has been delayed. That game will collect a number of old games into one package. It will feature over 300 playable characters. Not content just to re-release old games, Lucasfilm Games also recently announced a new chapter in the Knights of the Old Republic series. A large, open-world Star Wars game is also on the horizon, thanks to Ubisoft.
Star Wars Republic Commando is available for digital purchase on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as of April 6 for $14.99.
