If you’re looking to make massive amounts of money in Stardew Valley, you’ll want to look into producing truffle oil, made from truffles. This artisan good sells for a hefty bit of gold and is very easy to make, so if you’re producing enough of it, you’ll be rolling in cash before you know it. All it takes to produce is some pigs and an oil making machine. Here’s everything you need to know about Stardew Valley’s truffles.

How to Get Truffles

Truffles in Stardew Valley are pretty easy to get your hands on. Pigs find them every day as the product that they “produce,” like how chickens make eggs and cows make milk. However, the game doesn’t consider them an animal product and they don’t benefit from the Rancher profession, which gives a profit bonus to animal products that you sell.

So, how do you get some pigs? It’s simple! Just build a barn, upgrade it twice until it’s a Deluxe Barn, and then buy a pig from Marnie’s ranch for 16,000g.

Once that pig matures to the adult stage, it’ll dig up truffles outside so long as it’s fed, happy, and has terrain without paths or other objects on it. Pigs will not find truffles in the winter (or when it’s raining), though, so that’s a good time to buy baby piglets and raise them to adulthood.

If the conditions are met, pigs will basically always produce a truffle each day. Those with higher friendship levels have a chance to find more than one truffle per day, similar to how cows will produce large milk when they like you more. A pig with maxed friendship has a 66% chance to find multiple. It’s worth noting that truffles are considered foraged items in many ways, so they’ll benefit from both the Gatherer and Botanist professions, strangely.

If you don’t have any pigs, you can still get truffles on occasion. Rarely, it’s possible for the traveling cart to sell one for the hefty price of 1,875g at the lowest, and 3,125g at the highest.

Truffle Oil

The most obvious and ubiquitous use for truffles is to make truffle oil and sell it. Stardew Valley players looking to sell the oil can expect some hefty profit. At its base price, it sells for 1,065g. Add on the Artisan profession, which adds a bonus to the sale of artisan goods, and it’ll sell for a whopping 1,491g each. Truffles themselves have a base price of 625g, with iridium-quality ones selling for a nice 1,250g.

All you’ll need is an oil maker. You’ll learn the recipe for this machine when you reach farming level 8. It takes 50 slime, 20 hardwood, and a single gold bar to create an oil maker. Just place the truffles that your pigs find into these oil makers, and in six in-game hours, you’ll have produced some truffle oil.

Other Uses

Truffles have other uses as well. The Chef’s Bundle in the Community Center, on the bulletin board, requires a donation of one truffle. If you decide to gift one to villagers, you won’t get many friendship points. Leah loves them, but everyone else has a neutral opinion of them, save for Maru, who hates them. If you turn them into truffle oil, though, you’ll have better results. Jas, Sebastian, and Vincent hate it, but almost everyone else likes it and Harvey loves it.

If you want a cool shirt that is mostly black with a red bandana tied around the neck, you can bring a truffle to Emily’s sewing machine and pair it with some cloth to make the Dark Bandana Shirt. Finally, it’s one of the items that can be requested in the Help Wanted quests on the notice board in town. If you bring a truffle to the person requesting one, you’ll earn 1,875g and 150 friendship points with that particular resident. Villagers only request truffles if you have a pig.

In dire situations, you can consume truffles as food. They’ll restore between 13 and 33 energy and between 5 and 14 health, depending on the quality. It’s not much, but it’s better than getting knocked out by exhaustion or enemies in the mines.

That’s all you need to know about getting these pig-related treats in Stardew Valley! If this guide helped you, be sure to let us know in the comments below. As well, share it around so it can help others.
