Starfield has a lot of hype surrounding it and for a good reason. It’s been a while since Bethesda released a game as big as this one promises to be, with so much buildup and promises about everything from the massive size of the game to the sci-fi setting that’s reportedly been in the works for decades. There’s bound to be a lot of brand-new, never before seen features put into a game like this, and from what we’ve seen of Starfield, it certainly doesn’t disappoint. However, it’s also nice to know that Bethesda will bring back a fan-favorite feature for its newest release: free character customization.
‘Starfield’ Will Have Bethesda’s Limitless Character Creation
Aside from their open worlds and free-range gameplay, one thing that makes Bethesda’s RPGs stand out is that after their initial character customization, you can change your character’s appearance at any point in the game. This isn’t a new feature from Bethesda: it was present as far back as Fallout 3, released in 2008. The ability to redesign your character has also been present in Skyrim and Fallout 4. Bethesda has just confirmed that this beloved feature will be making a triumphant return in Starfield.
In-depth character customization has always been a mainstay of Bethesda’s role-playing games. The Fallout games give players near total control over how much strength, speed, agility, and intelligence their character has. In contrast, the Elder Scrolls games provide players with an array of fantasy races, each with a unique racial trait. In the same vein, Starfield will let players customize their character’s appearance and background, as well as manage skill points across five skill trees: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech.
Why Is Starfield’s Character Customization Important?
For a game that places so much importance on character customization, it makes sense that Starfield would continue the Bethesda tradition of letting players change their character’s appearance throughout the game. Not much is known about how this feature will work in-game yet. In addition, Starfield’s ability to let players change their character’s appearance will keep players from being stuck with the questionable choices they might have made at the beginning of the game.
Starfield will release for Xbox Series S|X and PC on September 6th, 2023.
