Job Gone Wrong is a quest in Starfield that greets you upon arriving in Akila City. While it’s not mandatory to complete, it’s hard to miss and it’s not difficult. Resolving it will take good Persuasion skills or deadly force, though a peaceful resolution is the best outcome. You won’t need to rank up your Persuasion skill, though it won’t hurt for this mission. Complete the mission and you can easily join the Freestar Rangers no matter how you complete it. Here is the Job Gone Wrong quest walkthrough for Starfield with all the information you need.

How To Complete Job Gone Wrong In Starfield

When you arrive at Akila City, security will inform you that there’s a problem at the local Galbank branch. You are directed to Marshal Daniel Blake who is attempting to negotiate with the Shaw Gang’s leader. Speak to him after it is done to formally begin Job Gone Wrong in Starfield. Blake wishes to resolve the matter with the Shaw Gang peacefully and asks you to negotiate. He will not attempt a violent option without speaking to the leader first.

Head up to the speaker outside the bank’s front door. As long as you stay peaceful and try to relate to the bandits, it’s possible to start negotiations. Bringing up the Marshal or being forceful will end negotiations and force you to take the violent path. It’s difficult to ruin negotiations even if you fail the Persuasion option because you are at least trying to help out. Failing Persuasion will still allow you to continue.

Your last chance to end this peacefully comes with the “It’s not too late to end this peacefully” line. The following choices should be enough to get the Shaw Gang to surrender:

  1. Nobody’s been hurt yet. Surrender now and the judge might go easy on you.
  2. If even one hostage dies, your robbery charge becomes a murder charge. You don’t want that to happen.
  3. Stand down now, and the punishment could still be light.
  4. Give up now and you’ll do some time, sure, but nowhere near as much as you would if a hostage dies.

If you used the Wanted option before, that’s all you need. Regular Persuasion will require looping the conversation repeatedly until you finish. If your Persuasion skill is higher, then you can use riskier options to convince the gang to stand down.

If You Fail To Negotiate With The Shaw Gang

In the event that your negotiations fail during the Job Gone Wrong quest in Starfield, go back to Daniel Blake and you must end this violently. Your options are a frontal assault or going through the back. Regardless of the option you pick, there is no way to avoid combat. Unless your Stealth skill is maxed out, it’s not possible to take everyone out quietly as you will be spotted. The only thing you must watch out for is the basement, as the gang is holding the survivors there. As long as you leave them unharmed, defeat the entire gang and report back to Daniel Blake to complete the quest.

While you don’t need the quest to join the Rangers, it definitely helps your case when you ask to join them.
