This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Traveling through dozens of space systems, you can find tons of content and helpful materials. But to ensure the success of your expedition, you will need supplies, spare Ship Parts in case of a battle, and fuel for gravity jumps. Of course, you can get supplies and Ship Parts by looting or trading with some ships, but where to refuel? Fortunately, fuel is not a consumable since this stock only affects your comfort and speed of movement between systems. This mechanic may seem confusing for beginners, so we are here to tell you how to increase fuel capacity and whether you need to refuel your ship in Starfield.

Can You Refuel the Ship in Starfield?

First, it’s worth noting that your ship doesn’t need to refuel in Starfield, so don’t try looking for filling stations in spaceports. Your ship refills automatically while you are flying or exploring the planets. In addition, it happens fast enough that you don’t have to worry about it.

Your fuel tank is almost always full, and it only affects the length of your gravity jump. The game will not allow you to make a gravity jump if you have chosen too long a route (image above). Despite this, you can jump into the system closer, wait a bit, and jump again to reach the desired location. As we said earlier, the fuel tank size only affects the comfort of your travel.

If you want to get to the farthest space systems in 1-2 gravity jumps, you can increase Fuel Capacity in Starfield in two ways:

  • Buying more capacious fuel tanks.
  • Level up the Astrodynamics skill.

The first way affects your fuel supply. You can buy more capacious fuel tanks as you progress through the game. As an alternative, you can buy or steal a better ship. The best fuel tanks can increase your fuel supply to 400-600 units, but you can also stop at cheaper instances.

On the other hand, you can unlock and upgrade the Astrodynamics skill. Of course, this ability will not improve your fuel supply but reduce the cost of gravity jumps. Depending on the level of this skill, you can reduce costs from 15% to 50%. It is a great way to save on expensive and rare fuel tanks. In addition, there is no level limit in the game, so you can maximize this skill even if you have invested a lot of points in other skills.
