Starz has added another entry to the list of shows suspended during the WGA strike. P-Valley, a Starz drama series created by Katori Hall, has halted production on its third season amidst the strike. Hall has proclaimed that the show will not be resumed until the strike is resolved and “a fair deal is reached,” whenever that may be.
Premiering in 2020, P-Valley is a drama series that follows the owners and employees of The Pynk, a strip club in the fictional town of Chucalissa, Mississippi. Nicco Annan stars as Uncle Clifford Sayles, the owner of The Pynk; Brandee Evans stars as veteran stripper Mercedes Woodbine. Shannon Thornton stars as Keyshawn Harris/Miss Mississippi, with Elarica Johnson as Hailey Colton/Autumn Night/Lakeisha Savage. P-Valley, which concluded its second season in June 2022, has received generally high reviews – including an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes – but fans waiting for the third season will have to wait longer than expected.
P-Valley Production Suspended as Katori Hall Seeks ‘Fair Deal’
P-Valley has officially become the third Starz series to be suspended after the WGA strike began on May 2nd, 2023. The Venerey of Samantha Bird and an untitled series from Ava DuVernay were previously suspended on May 4th and 10th, respectively, according to Deadline, and P-Valley joins the list with its third season under production. Series creator Katori Hall released a statement on Twitter earlier today, stating that “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached.”
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” Hall continued. “I am also a member of the DGA [Director’s Guild of America] whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”
Despite rumors, due to the #WGA #WritersStrike filming on #PValley has been postponed. Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing & producing duties are inextricably linked. We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached. #WGAStrong

Given that the future of the WGA strike is unclear, it’s impossible to tell when season 3 of P-Valley will resume production. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series are currently available on Starz and Hulu. P-Valley is produced by Lionsgate, Chernin Entertainment, and Kat Buggy Productions, with Katori Hall serving as an executive producer.
