The first Steam Controller didn’t exactly become the ideal bridge between mouse & keyboard setups and console controllers, mainly because of its availability and other issues. Hence, Valve might be looking to address that with the Steam Controller 2 which they are reportedly confident enough to mass-produce.
The information came from an insider and known leaker named Brad Lynch. He recently tweeted some juicy bits about the secretive Steam Controller 2 and its current status.
Later stages in production could also mean that the Steam Controller 2 might be unveiled or even sold soon, hopefully in time for the biggest holiday this year. If not, then there’s always the early next year.
And the rumor about the mass production might be something that Steam Controller fans will find splendid seeing as the first one had its host of problems. It was reportedly inaccurate and sluggish since it tried to copy the mouse’s precision on a controller.
Steam Controller 2 being slated for mass production means it might be ready for widespread public scrutiny. Additionally, Brad Lynch replied in the thread that the analog sticks will be symmetrical. This puts the Steam Controller 2 closer to a DualSense than an Xbox controller in terms of layout.
Valve Has Yet to comment on the Matter
With that said, there’s no estimate of a release date or additional information that could verify Brad Lynch’s leak. So it might be best to take this Steam Controller 2 leak with a grain of salt.
Valve hasn’t exactly been generous with information regarding the Steam Controller 2. The company hasn’t even officially confirmed the existence of such a device. In any case, if the Steam Controller 2 is as good as the leak implies, it could be a huge advantage for all kinds of gamers.
Mouse & keyboard setups are notably harsh on the wrists and shoulders while controllers don’t provide the pinpoint accuracy of mice. The Steam Controller 2 could set out to achieve what its predecessor couldn’t which is to close the gap between the two gaming control setups.
