Days of Our Lives fans are in for a big change. Actor Steve Burton has confirmed his exit from the Peacock soap opera, and viewers will certainly miss his presence in Salem. The actor shared the news of his departure as Harris Michaels this week in a video that was shared to Daily Drama’s YouTube page. Now, fans will watch the sudser with the knowledge that Harris is headed out the door.
“Wow! Well, I just shot my final scenes here on Days of Our Lives, and I just want to say thank you so much to the cast [and] to the crew. It’s been amazing,” Burton said. “I can’t believe it’s been a year already! So, thank you so much to the fans. It’s just … I’m always so full of gratitude. So thank you. Stay tuned,” he added, per Us Weekly.
Steve Burton Is Leaving Days of Our Lives
Burton joined the soap opera scene in 1988 when he played the character Harris Michaels. At that time, he was a high school student involved with Eve Donovan. However, his stint didn’t last long, and he left the show that same year. The actor became a staple on the soap opera General Hospital until he was let go in 2021.
Days of Our Lives saw an opportunity to bring Steve Burton back into the fold decades after his first run. The actor was hired to reprise his role for the sudser’s spin-off series Beyond Salem. During his storyline, he had scenes with iconic couple Bo and Hope Brady. Later, he returned to the flagship show, where he became a quick favorite among fans.
Viewers will now be forced to say goodbye to Steve Burton and Harris Michaels. However, as many soap opera fans know, characters tend to come and go like clockwork. There’s always the possibility that Harris will show himself in Salem again in the future.
