The first new Streets of Rage title in over 25 years is kind of a big deal and has this particular writer more excited than ever. Developers Dotemu must realize how passionate some fans are as hot on the heels of the recent behind the scenes video they are at it again.
The latest trailer brings with it a whole host of new information, including the final playable character named Floyd.
I’ll come on to the new character in a minute, but first I have to address the best news from the trailer—couch co-op. For the first time ever in the Streets of Rage franchise players will have the option of 4 player local play, which is extremely exciting to me, or at least would be if I knew four people.
Of course, Streets of Rage 4 is also playable online because no matter how much I pine for yesteryear, we are in 2020, although, the online-only supports 2 players.
Back to Floyd, who is the final playable character in the game. Take a look at the video and see what you think of the new guy and his moves:
As you can see, Floyd is basically Jax from the Mortal Kombat series. He does look like fun to play with, but those metal arms will always look familiar.
According to the announcement, Floyd dishes out serious damage with tremendous power and the longest reach in the game. The trade-off for this is slower movement and health recovery.
That said, I’m probably still going to be Axel when the game comes out.
What do you think of the new character and the latest gameplay video? Let us know in the comments. We’ll bring you more information on Streets of Rage 4 when we have it. I can’t wait to play it; I just have to decide whether to buy it on PC, Switch, Xbox One, or PS4.
Most likely, all of the above.
