While attending the Edinburgh International TV Festival, Brian Cox talked about Succession and his character Logan Roy. When looking at his character, he said how he “loves” and respects” the patriarch of everyone’s least favorite family. On the flip side, he said how the villain would “hate” him due to their difference as the actor sees himself as an “optimist.”
“I think things would get better, and he doesn’t, so Logan would hate me,” he said to the audience. “He would say, ‘I wish that Brian Cox would shut the f— up.’
Succession based its family, who own their mega-corporation, Waystar Royco, takes inspiration from other billionaire families like Fox’s Murdochs and the Trumps. After playing the character for three and soon-to-be four seasons, the actor looked at real people like Logan Roy, but how he respects his character over those who would be compared to the HBO series characters.
“Unlike Trump or Murdoch, he’s self-made,” he said. “He’s a misanthrope, is kind of unhappy, and his curse is he loves his children. I’ve grown to have enormous respect for him even though he is the antithesis of who I am.”

Season 4 of Succession is currently in the making. Brian Cox did not give anything away, but plenty is set up for fans to expect as the turmoil within the family is at an all-time high. Seeing how the last season amped up the drama and ridiculous comedy, it should be a rollercoaster for fans who love to hate-watch these wealthy people stab one another in the back. It will also see returning guest stars with Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman), Arian Moayed (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Juliana Canfield (Y: The Last Man), Annabelle Dexter-Jones (Under the Silver Lake), Hope Davis (Your Honor), Cherry Jones (Defending Jacob), Justin Kirk (Weeds), Dagmara Domiñczyk (We Own This City), and Stephen Root (Barry).
HBO has found great success in Succession. A series that does not have Game of Thrones kinds of numbers, it has a dedicated fan base and the acclaim to put it high on the mountain of successful shows the platform holds. The nine-time Emmy-winner will return next year for its fourth season.
