Now, gamers who’ve conquered every nook and cranny of Zebes have a new challenge. Play the game with the ground tilted vertically. Samus and the enemies remain upright and the controls are the same, but the game world itself is rotated 90 degrees clockwise. In short, everything that used to be ground is now a wall.

The mod closely resembles the original game, with most of the level design unchanged, save for a few minor details here and there. It is possible to complete from start to finish through wall jumping and one necessary instance of infinite bomb jumping, as seen at the end of the video above.
Created by SMILEuser96 on metroidconstruction.com, the hack is free to download and try out. Possibly the most notable quality about this situation is the fact that the game’s world is explorable and beatable even when turned on its side. It just goes to show how ingeniously crafted the game itself truly is, that it can be played successfully in ways that would completely destroy most other games.
