Nintendo took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that they will be holding a Nintendo Direct focusing on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Direct will take place on Wednesday, August 8th at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.

Fans should expect a healthy serving of information from game director Masahiro Sakurai who will be featured in the Direct. The presentation will likely go in-depth on changes made to existing characters as well as some exciting reveals.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was first announced during a Nintendo Direct back in March with a short teaser. We got a much larger taste of what to expect, just a few months ago at E3 2019. There, Sakurai revealed that every character who had been apart of the series would be making a return. This will make the lineup of  Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the largest yet.

During this deep dive, we got a barrage of information about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sakurai went down the line, talking about tweaks being made to many characters, new assist trophies, and items, as well as brand new stages. Fans should expect a very similar style of presentation from this Nintendo Direct on Wednesday.

Sakurai also revealed that Ridley, one of the main antagonists from the Metroid franchise would be making his debut in Ultimate. He also stated that there would be some characters left to reveal before launch. It is safe to assume that Sakurai and Nintendo will unveil at least one of these surprise characters during this Nintendo Direct. Early rumors suggest that Simon Belmont from the Castlevania franchise will be making his debut in Ultimate, so that may be something to look forward to.

Nintendo Directs dedicated to a single game tend to be on the shorter side. Fans should expect a 20 to 30-minute presentation. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is slated to launch on December 7th, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch.
