In the Playstation Blog’s The Drop this week, a nice surprise was thrown in among the big list of games arriving across the PlayStation platform this week. Yes, there’s the big hitters like Star Wars: Battlefront, but an SNES classic will also be available via cross-buy, Super Star Wars.
The classic side-scrolling game will drop onto the PlayStation store this week for both PS4 and PS Vita as a digital download. Originally released for the Nintendo system back in 1992, here’s hoping this is a trend we’ll see with Playstation and SNES re-releases. While there doesn’t appear to be too much info on The Drop announcement and post, there will be some new “enhanced features” added to the re-telling of Star Wars: A New Hope.
Enhanced for PS4 with new save features, leaderboards, Trophies, and updated display and controller options. Risk your life as a Jedi Knight! Join Luke, Han, and Chewbacca in their fierce war against the evil Empire.
For those not looking to jump into Battlefront (or at least not yet), maybe this is a great nostalgic way to get your Star Wars fix this holiday season. I have very fond memories of playing all three of the SNES Super Star Wars titles, one of which I still have, Super Return of the Jedi. Many aspects of the game were just there to “gamify” the Star Wars experience, like fighting giant scorpions or other random creatures from the galaxy, but hey there has to be something to aim your lasers and lightsabers at right?
A price has yet to be listed, but look for the game to hit the PS Store November 17th.
