The Supreme Court in Washington D.C has issued an order likely to lead to the dismissal of former Trump advisor Steve Bannon’s contempt-of-Congress conviction. Bannon, a longtime ally of President Trump, defied a subpoena from the Democrat-led January 6 committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. The ruling has sparked immediate backlash on X over questions of justice and political accountability. Some users criticized the decision as further evidence of two-tiered justice.

Steve Bannon wins at Supreme Court in contempt battle

The post sharing the news gained attention on X. The video reports, “Steve Bannon wins a Supreme Court order likely to lead to the dismissal of his contempt of Congress conviction.”

Key details include that Bannon was accused of defying the subpoena, held in contempt of Congress, and convicted by a jury in 2022, leading to a four-month prison term and a fine. A federal appeals court in Washington upheld the conviction. The Trump Justice Department pushed to have the case thrown out. The Supreme Court’s order now makes dismissal much more likely. The dismissal would largely be symbolic since Bannon has already served the four-month prison term.

Online users react strongly to the ruling

Frustration poured out across the replies as users watched the Supreme Court step in. “There is no justice in America,” one commenter wrote. Another called it outright corruption, while a third declared it was “two tiered justice system at its finest.” A fourth added that “the Supreme Court is owned by Trump,” arguing the ruling proved subpoenas from Congress now mean nothing and set a dangerous precedent.

Not everyone agreed. “Thank you, Trump Justices,” one user wrote. Another stated, “Vindicated.”

This story is gaining attention because of the Supreme Court in Washington’s direct involvement in a high-profile Jan. 6-related case. The case now returns to the lower court for further action consistent with the Trump Justice Department’s motion to dismiss.
