Sussex Representative Denounces Meghan Markle’s ‘Theft’ of $1,700 Photo Shoot Dress: ‘The Cover-up Is Always the Downfall’

Is this the same source who spoke about the consent form, too?

It goes without saying that a lot of bad things are said about the Sussexes, but not all of them are true. That isn’t to say there aren’t many negative things about Harry and Meghan that are true, but one spokesperson for Meghan Markle strongly disagrees with a particular rumor: that she stole a $1,700 dress.

The dress in question is one she wore during a photo shoot with Variety, back in 2022. It’s now being brought into the spotlight because Meghan was seen wearing it in the trailer for Netflix’s With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. That said, the rumor claims that Meghan Markle took the dress without permission after the photo shoot was over and never gave it back. However, a Sussex representative speaking to People claims otherwise:

“The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory. Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements.”

“So she did take it, but claims that they knew?” asked a commenter, somewhat confused as to what the so-called spokesperson was implying. “The cover-up is always the downfall. It just takes one company to disclose the contract to prove this lying ILBW is fabricating matters,” responds another. Others pointed out that a ‘source’ from the Sussexes also told People that a consent form wasn’t signed for the Kardashians’ Instagram posts of Harry and Meghan. However, in the end, all that turned out to be fake news. In other words, users assume that this spokesperson’s blasting of this dress rumor, too, could be fake.

Another reason why many believe this spokesperson’s word to be fake was that it took 3 days for someone to come out and deny the rumor. “They were trying to think of a plausible story,” says one commenter, saying that Meghan had stolen many things long before she met Harry. “Markle never asked for permission – she has a long history of this. This is considered out and out theft,” added another. Naturally, these are accusations likely based on bias and rumors, but it’s hard to defend the Sussexes when their recent statement about Jenner’s party turned out to be a lie.

In the end, it would appear Meghan Markle did take the dress; that much is true. The representative is just attempting to defend the Duchess from any rumors of theft. But, as one person points out: “Why didn’t Variety issue the denial or whoever owned the dress before Meghan took it. This is like the thief saying, ‘Who, me?‘” Only time will tell whether or not this rumor-bashing turns out to carry weight or not.
