It was announced back in April that several actors would be reprising their roles from the Chucky franchise, including Alex Vincent and Jennifer Tilley. Both of them appear in the new trailer, along with Brad Dourif’s terrifying vocal portrayal of the killer doll.
IndieWire reported on the details of the trailer, saying that the series appears to be both a spin-off and a continuation of the franchise. In the series, a teenage boy named Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) buys the Chucky doll at a yard sale. Little does he realize that a serial killer possessed the doll, ready to terrorize Hackensack, New Jersey.
The film will also touch on Chucky’s backstory and how killer Charles Lee Ray used voodoo to transfer his soul into a plastic Good Guy doll. At one point in the trailer, Vincent’s character Andy explains that Chucky broke his soul into pieces and that the other piece is not living in a doll.
As if Chucky doesn’t cause enough trouble as a doll, now he’s got his long-awaited human host. Look out, Hackensack.
Chucky started terrifying audiences 33 years ago in the 1988 film Child’s Play. In that film, a then 7-year-old Vincent played Andy Barclay, whose mother gives him a doll, unaware that pure evil is living inside of it. Since then, the Chucky franchise has spawned eight films, almost all of them featuring Dourif voicing the homicidal doll. Mark Hammill voiced Chucky in the 2019 remake of Child’s Play.
Chucky will premiere on the SYFY and USA networks on October 12, 2021. Are you all planning to watch it? Which franchise characters are you most excited to see return?
