One of the top indie games of 2017, Tacoma, is currently on sale for Steam users for half price. Instead of its usual $19.99 price point, its currently available for $9.99.
Tacoma puts players in the shoes of Amitjyoti (Amy) Ferrier, who is assigned by Venturis to enter the abandoned Tacoma station in order to retrieve AI data from each of its sections and retrieve the physical processing module (‘wetware’) of ODIN, the station’s AI.
It’s gameplay elements are solely relegated to exploration, as Amy uses her augmented reality (AR) device to review actions and conversations had by and between non-player characters from the crew that had been aboard the station. While most of the story is linear, there are plenty of accessible conversations and stories to find – be it through audio dialogue or written down on different forms of notes – throughout Tacoma.
From start to finish, the game can be done in one sitting, clocking in at around two hours in total. Users who are more explorative will certainly take longer to finish though, and will be rewarded with interesting side stories and other information relevant to the plot. If you are looking for a short, sweet, and simple narrative experience than this is the perfect deal for you.
Our own Jonathan Marvin reviewed the game earlier this year stating, “it held an excellent and surprisingly emotional story.” This should come as no surprise, being that it was created by Fullbright Studios, the company behind the hit 2013 indie game Gone Home.
If you enjoyed Gone Home, you’ll likely love Tacoma as well, with both sharing similar storytelling formats, themes, and gameplay.
