Gypsy Rose Blanchard is spilling the beans about her time in lock, and the nastiest things are creeping out. Her upcoming memoir, titled “My Time to Stand,” details her life with an abusive mother through a murder conviction. It also depicts how the social media sensation is coping with life after bars. Regarding prison life, Blanchard recently spoke about the yucky things she witnessed behind bars. One that left fans’ jaw dropped involved the abuse survivor’s roommate.
A glimpse of the memoir gave fans an insight into how incarceration can scar you for life. People magazine reported that Blanchard battled with her sanity while in prison. This is because of the alarming things she witnessed. According to the news outlet, she shared a cell with several women with different ticks. One bunkie used to speak to the wall, while the other made howling sounds when a moon was in the sky. Blanchard noted that another bunkmate tried to harm herself countlessly while cursing at herself.
Despite these alarming traits that she saw in the women Blanchard lived with, they were manageable. The cellmate who topped the pyramid of weird and disturbing habits played with her feces. You read that right. In her book, Blanchard says, “So, pretty much all day long, I was forced to watch my naked roommate delight in her excrement. As if it were Play-Doh y’all.” Going further, she mentions bribing her to stop at a point, as the smell almost made her vomit.
Summing up her feelings at the time, she writes that she was “horrified, confused, and trapped like this for four months.” The sordid experience left her sad, and she recalls contemplating suicide. She said, “For a few days, I wondered if I should put my smock to use.” Blanchard found the walk down memory lane involved in the writing process tough, describing it as a “rollercoaster.” As reported by PEOPLE, she said, “You want to do your story [justice].” “You want to tell it with as much honesty and vulnerability as possible. So it was quite a rollercoaster ride.”
What Else Is Gypsy Rose up to These Days?
Blanchard left prison roughly a year ago, in December of 2023. This was after she had already served eight years for the role she played in her mother’s murder in 2015. She suffered abuse and is a victim of Munchausen by proxy, and her story made global news. Since her release, she has constantly been in the public eye and the subject of polarizing online debate. She and her boyfriend, Ken Urker, are expecting their first child.
While there are no details of her employment status, she once stated her interest in the beauty industry. She expressed this at a press conference held in January for The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Per Parade.com, she said, “I like to do people’s hair. I like to do makeup. I’m a total girly girl.” She, however, stated that the hectic nature of her post-prison life did not leave much room for a nine-to-five. It is not clear yet whether or not that situation has changed.
