“You were lost and gone forever, oh my darlin’ Clementiiiiine…”
No! Don’t worry! Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead is not lost and gone forever. Just for now.
We’ve all sung that song while playing the game, but even though it’s set to continue eventually, the confirmation that season three won’t arrive until after 2015 still has us all weeping the tune into our warm glasses of milk at night as we try to fall asleep. (Or maybe that’s just me? Eh-hem.)
Either way, every conscientious of their fan base, the Telltale staff refuses to leave us hanging. Although season three of the main story following Clementine won’t continue in 2015 (my theory is that they’re busy wrapping up season one of other series, like Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, both worth checking out), The Walking Dead series itself isn’t to remain in dead silence all year. Reported on their blog, Telltale announced that some “pretty big news” regarding The Walking Dead is riding the train in to E3:
“We’re heading down to Los Angeles next week for E3, and we’re packing something special for you guys!”
The Official YouTube Live @ E3 Stream runs on Monday, June 15th at 9am PT/12pm ET, and it’s then that series creator Robert Kirkman and Telltale Games will together make this grandiose announcement. You can watch the hype trailer below:
Well, Telltale, I have a number of theories. It could be a season 2 equivalent of 400 Days, the DLC to season 1 that featured intertwined stories of multiple non-main-game characters who later came to impact season 2. The DLC served as a smooth way to add backstory to season 2 characters that otherwise would have necessitated a flashback, and no one really wants to get distracted from the main storyline, since it has Clementine as the immensely engaging lead. It can be expected that should this announcement reveal another DLC, the stories will be equally relevant to the upcoming season 3. Given where season 2 left off, I’m guessing that Telltale almost needs a DLC in order to go back and tell more backstory before they dip into… well, who even knows what’s coming next. The end of season 2 was such a shocker. (Don’t worry, no spoilers.) It made sense, but still, it blew minds.
All we know for sure is what Telltale Games PR Director Job Stauffer has dropped on Twitter: “I think we’re close enough to say that fans of the game and *especially* the comic will be excited.”
In that case, we can likely anticipate seeing comic favorites appear in whatever the new announcement is.
What are you expecting? Can you wait until tomorrow? Stay tuned until then for more updates.
