Lois Lane has officially been cast in the second season of the CW’s Supergirl, it’s just not the one you might think. Teri Hatcher, who played Lois in ABC’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has officially signed on for a recurring role for the later half of the current season.
“No offense to any of the wonderful actresses who have also played the part,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says, “But Teri Hatcher is my all time favorite Lois Lane. To have her come back to the SuperWorld in a completely different part is an unbelievable gift to me, Greg, and the fans.”
Details are sparse on the former girlfriend of the Man of Steel’s role in the current season of Supergirl, but the CW claims her to be “a mysterious new role that will become the new Big Bad of Season 2.” Rumors have circulated as to what that role may be, but conjecture point’s toward her being the leader of the group that’s been after Mon-El.
The 52-year-old actress has managed to stay busy since her first role in the DC universe, with a lead role in ABC’s comedy-drama Desperate Housewives as Susan Mayer. For the Seinfeld fans out there she can also be remembered for her appearances as Sidra; a character that breaks up with Jerry because she believes that Jerry was trying to have Elaine surreptitiously determine whether Sidra had breast implants.
Though this isn’t Hatcher’s first time returning to the DC universe – as she continued the tradition of former Lois Lane actresses portraying the character’s mother many years later in an episode of Smallville in 2010 – it will be the first time she’s playing a villain.
