It seems that under the Trump administration, the actions of police, ICE, and federal agents have grown increasingly aggressive and controversial. Beyond ICE reportedly arresting U.S. citizens without proper procedure, a new incident out of Huntington Park, California, has many people alarmed. A group of feds, clad in tactical gear, showed up at a quiet home and decided that the best way to make their entrance was by detonating an explosive device on the front door.
In a video shared by Reddit user ExactlySorta, you can clearly see the federal agents approaching the home in Huntington Park. They secure a device to the front door and window, take cover behind a parked vehicle, and then set off the explosion. The blast ripped the door from its hinges and shattered a window, with a drone soon flying into the house to survey the interior.
Inside, however, were not dangerous fugitives or armed criminals. There were only a woman named Jenny Ramirez and her two young children, one a toddler and the other just six years old. The family was eventually escorted out of their own home by the feds and into a waiting SUV, clearly shaken from the incident.
So, what could possibly justify this kind of over-the-top show of force in a residential California neighborhood? According to Ramirez, the feds were searching for her boyfriend. He wasn’t even home at the time. She said she had no idea why they were targeting him until he called her later that morning. He confirmed that Border Patrol was after him and that he was being told to turn himself in.
Ramirez suspected the raid was connected to an incident that occurred a week prior in the City of Industry, where her boyfriend accidentally collided with the back of a truck transporting federal agents. This assumption was later confirmed by Customs and Border Protection, who stated that Jorge Sierra-Hernandez was being pursued because of the crash, which they claimed caused significant damage and hindered a federal operation.
CBP alleged that agents were assaulted during the incident and that other individuals threw rocks and objects at them. They defended their response, asserting that anyone, citizen or not, who interferes with federal law enforcement would face consequences, including arrest.
Many internet users were quick to criticize the federal agents’ actions, with one commenter bluntly calling it “Gestapo in full effect.” Others questioned the legality and ethics behind using an explosive device in a civilian neighborhood. One user wrote, “Military uniforms with night vision in broad daylight? What makes their bomb used against civilians legal? Why hasn’t any court declared ICE a terrorist group? Why are people still letting this happen?”
