Shouldn’t the customer’s wishes come first?

Third-party AT&T saleswomen reps in Austin, Texas, were caught on Ring camera footage saying how they should ignore ‘No Soliciting’ and signs and knock hard “like police.” This controversial dialogue allegedly took place between an experienced saleswoman and her trainee. Online users were anything but pleased to see this sort of training being taught, not to mention the negative general stigma against door-to-door solicitors.

The video of the saleswomen was shared by onATX_native on r/Austin, and several commenters pointed out that the two appeared to be part of Horizon Edge Alliance under AT&T contracts. Whatever the case, hundreds of Redditors were outraged by the women’s behavior to believe this was acceptable.

Comments Claim Knocking on a Door Intentionally ‘Like Police’ Is ‘Terrible Advice’ for Solicitors

One person pointed out how, at the start of the video, the woman on the left said “Cause if you like bang on it, make the right sound like police it’s scary.” Plenty of people agreed that such training is “terrible advice,” considering this is in the state of Texas. “When is ‘walk up uninvited to someone’s door and pound on it like you’re the police’ going to get you a sale? A weapon in your face, maybe...,” says a commenter.

Another Redditor encourages anyone approached by a unwanted solicitors to avoid going to the door. “Let them stand and knock,” they wrote. “Sure it’s annoying but the second you engage them it’s a win for them. If everyone stopped opening the door they’d realize how wasteful of a practice it is and give it up.” Dozens of others expressed how they would chew the salespeople out or set up sprinklers near entrances if they could.

Many others shared their experiences of dealing with AT&T and other sales representatives trying to sell services at their front door. Unfortunately, almost all of them were negative, with nothing good to say about the interactions.

This clip and its reactions show how strongly people can be against solicitors due to their overly aggressive and pushy behavior. Yet, ironically, this Ring camera video shows salespeople teaching each other the exact things people hate so much.
