On various parts of the internet, you will find hate toward people who spend their time playing video games. With popular phrases like, “Touch grass” and “Don’t you have anything better to do,” people are always being shamed for enjoying their time with a good game. A pregnant woman in Texas rushed to defend her husband when he was shamed for what he brought to the labor ward. The supplies in question? Just a bit of entertainment.
A Texas woman named Maria (@pitapocket92) shared a video on TikTok of her husband showing up overpacked to the labor ward. In the video, her husband Christopher wheels in a literal stack of supplies in boxes. Obviously it’s more than they need, but it’s a sweet gesture. Clearly, he’s excited. However, instead of reacting with compassion at the feel-good video, TikTokers went wild as TikTokers will do.
Appalled commenters couldn’t believe it when they spotted an Xbox and a television on top of the stack of goodies. And, as to be expected, they assumed he’d be a failing partner who only cared about video games. This, however, was not one of those cases.
Instead, Maria said Christopher was instructed on what to bring to labor because of a list they made together. She responded to the criticism, saying he brought the Xbox and television so they could watch movies together. If you’re giving birth, you might as well get comfortable, right?
As somebody who has been there with my wife while we both waited hours for our son to be born, it’s stressful. Throughout that process, watching movies was a way for us to connect and keep our minds preoccupied.
The rude and uncalled-for comments consisted of, “Oh she’s raising this kid by herself in this relationship” and “Thankful my husband was insanely supportive and by my side my entire labor… and not gaming or doing anything else for that matter.” Another shared her own heartbreaking story, “My ex-husband brought his PlayStation to both of my births… my heart breaks for you… I know how this one ends…”
In response to Maria’s follow-up video on the matter, one person commented, “This video is proof we should never assume what is going on. The man brought baby clothes and hygiene stuff for his wife. This is what a present father looks like! We love to see it. Congratulations to the both of you.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!
