Jeep owners are usually among the most hyper and excited crowds in America, especially in Texas. But they get even wilder when Jeep Weekend rolls around. It’s a simple event where Jeep owners gather on the beach to hang out, show off their rides, and have some fun. The issue this year was that Jeep Weekend coincided with another event. Alongside it, 2025 also saw ‘Go Topless Day’ on May 17. This is another Jeep-focused event where owners take the tops off their Jeeps and raise money for charity.
Now, while both of these events sound perfectly fine on paper, things got pretty hectic and even dangerous in practice. Jeep owners can be a very excitable bunch, so excitable, in fact, that they sometimes cause trouble. Sheriff Jimmy Fullen of Texas had no intention of letting this massive crowd spiral out of control. Over the years, more and more people have shown up to celebrate Jeep Weekend, and with another big event happening at the same time this year, it was clear that trouble was on the horizon.
Anticipating chaos, the sheriff decided to step in early. He increased security and put measures in place to control the crowd. One of the biggest moves was banning parking at Crystal Beach. He also stopped people from camping or doing anything that would encourage them to stay at the beach overnight. You might think he was overreacting, but many locals seemed to agree with his concerns. In fact, a number of stores in the area decided to close for the day once the event rolled around.
These restrictions did help keep the situation from getting completely out of hand, and the number of attendees was noticeably smaller than in previous years. Even so, the weekend still ended with 275 arrests and 42 firearms confiscated.
Though internet users often push back when police crackdown on big events, that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Many Redditors actually supported the sheriff’s decision to rein things in. One user bluntly said, “Jeep people are the worst. Plus these new commercials are riding the nationalism d*** stupid hard. ‘Jeep, America’s most patriotic brand.’ F*** off outta here with that s***.”
Still, not everyone was on board with the heavy-handed approach. Some criticized the sheriff for going too far. One Redditor commented, “I was over there last Wednesday and there had to be at least 100 cops already there. They were pulling over a LOT of people for no apparent reason. I get it, and agree Jeep Weekend needed to be dealt with. But, days before the event and they’re harassing locals is BS!”
