Flying can be a nerve-wracking experience at the best of times, with cramped seats, strict safety rules, and the constant hum of engines making even routine trips feel stressful for passengers. With this in mind, a Texas woman (read: Karen) was caught on video having a rude back-and-forth with flight attendants. The reason why? She refused to put her seat in the upright position during takeoff. The video is currently making the rounds online.
The video is recorded from the perspective of one of the other passengers on the flight, and you can hear the Texas Karen, who is sat across the aisle, arguing with the flight attendant. They’re both bickering over the seat’s upright position, which is typically required during takeoff to ensure proper safety and compliance with airline regulations. “It was like that.” argues the Karen, though the flight attendant disagrees, “No, it wasn’t.”
The inconsiderate woman then points to another passenger and accuses him of not having his seat in the right position either, saying, “And neither is his.” The air hostess, however, clarifies, “His is up.” After accusing another passenger of the same thing, the woman goes on a rant, stating, “I mean there’s rules and there’s not rules. They don’t have to follow the rules. I’m not going to follow the rules.” though the flight staff repeatedly tell her that the other passenger’s seat is up.
After further back-and-forth, the air hostess attempts to defuse the situation by asking her, “Are we going to have a good flight or are we not?” The Karen, however, snaps back, “I’m just saying. You just overlooked everything.” Calmly, the flight attendant replies, “I’ve been doing this for a long time.” though the Karen rudely interrupts, saying, “Yeah, I know. Too long. Apparently too long because you just overlooked things. His seat is still not up. It’s not in line with the other seats. Alright, I’m putting mine back.” In the background, you can hear another frustrated passenger say under their breath, “Jesus.”
However, the clip then cuts to a few moments later, and a male member of the flight team can be seen discreetly talking to the woman inaudibly. Shortly after, the lady is seen walking down the aisle as a flight attendant escorts her off the plane.
As the footage spread online, reactions poured into the comment section. On Reddit, one user penned, “What a weird hill to die on.” while another replied to this with, “Fr, risking ending up on the no-fly list just because she refuses to sit upright for a few minutes.” Meanwhile, on TikTok, one netizen wrote, “Ummm her seat is the one that is in fact NOT sat up. She’s the only one reclined in her row lol” and another added, “Arguing with a flight attendant is a game you cannot win!“
