Texas Man Runs From Cops With Drink in Hand After Long Chase Ends in Arrest: ‘That Lot Couldn’t Catch a Cold’

Jogging apparently counts as fleeing

A man in Odessa, Texas, appeared to have no interest in letting a police chase ruin his drink. As officers followed him down the street, he casually jogged across the road with the beverage still in his hand, moving at a pace slow enough to keep it from spilling.

The unusual sight was captured on video from a passing car and later shared on Reddit by r/PublicFreakout.

The man can be seen running along the road as police vehicles follow behind him. Rather than sprinting away, he runs at an almost relaxed pace, still holding his drink as he crosses the street and continues down another road. The drink stays remarkably steady in his hand as the officers continue the pursuit.

Another angle shows the man coming out of a restaurant before taking off down the street, with police following behind him. The footage cuts before viewers can see exactly how the chase ends, leaving his fate unclear.

The other part of the video shows several police vehicles gathered on the opposite side of the road. The man is no longer visible, and the footage does not explicitly show whether officers caught him.

The number of police cars at the scene, however, appears to suggest the pursuit had come to an end.

Internet Reacts to Texas Police Chase Video

The video’s laid-back pacing became the centerpiece of the reaction online, with commenters mostly ribbing the officers rather than the man running. One commenter wrote, “I would not drop my drink either. Those law officers are not in adequate physical condition to protect anyone…let alone run them down.” Another added a simpler assessment: “I need to know how they caught him. That lot couldn’t catch a cold.”

Several commenters leaned into the joke about police fitness standards. One wrote, “Our active duty military doesn’t allow this lack of physical capability, why should our police forces that pay 10x and come with a pension allow it?” while another kept it short: “Too many donuts slowing them down.”

Others focused squarely on the drink itself, with one commenter writing, “Careful man! There’s a beverage here!” and another comparing the whole scene to a sports comedy, writing, “That’s some Will Ferrell sports movie *expletive* right there.”
