A man in Edinburg, Texas, accused a local hospital of banning him from the premises, saying that he was only advocating for his seriously ill father’s care. He would later reveal he had threatened to call the police if staff didn’t share his father’s records and documentation.
Ross Garcia shared footage of the moment he was banned on TikTok. He is an author, educator, and coach, and his content revolves around his profession. By a long mile, the clip shown above became his biggest ever, garnering 1.1 million views, 28,200 likes, and more than 1,600 comments.
The Texas man began recording his reaction to what he was being told at the time. He was wearing a hospital gown and mask at DHR Health, and kept asking if he was banned from the hospital, seeking confirmation while mentioning that his father, who is seriously ill, was in the room right next to him.
“Legally, are you sure that you can ban me from the hospital?” Ross asked. “You’re gonna ban me from being with my father?“
The staff member confirmed that he had been banned.
A back-and-forth followed, with the Texas man demanding to know who exactly banned him and to have the ban in writing.
“Can you give me the name and the last name?” Ross asked. “And if he is a police officer, I need his badge number because I don’t think this is fair.”
Much-Needed Context
In the clip’s description, Ross claimed that this situation erupted after he asked questions about his father’s care and advocated for him.
However, in an update, he provided additional context, saying he had requested copies of his father’s records and documentation. A staff member said he wasn’t required to do so. Things quickly escalated.
“I said that if we couldn’t get information, I would go to the police to document our concerns,” he wrote. Then, what happened in the first clip followed.
Additionally, Ross alleged that the staff member, once he mentioned involving the police, said that they were not going to continue treating his father. Refusing to be silenced, the man stood outside DHR Health in Edinburg holding a copy of the police report for the incident.
Mixed Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses, some of them mixed.
Some viewers supported Ross, even to the point of bashing the hospital. One viewer said, “I don’t know the details of what’s happening, but I do know DHR sucks.” Others, however, believed he was a troublemaker, with one person writing, “You must have been a nightmare. You don’t just get banned.“
Finally, a group mentioned that Ross had no right to access his father’s records due to HIPAA. One viewer wrote, “The records belong to the patient.”
Ross has yet to post a second update regarding his situation and his father’s.
