Texas Preacher Targets Mosque Open House With Fiery Sermon as Viewers Clash: ‘Does Nothing for Christianity’

This is controversial

A Christian preacher’s protest outside a Texas mosque is drawing attention online after video showed him using a microphone to condemn Islam while an open house was reportedly taking place. His message was confrontational, but some of the reactions online went even further, with viewers openly calling for mosques across the country to be shut down.

Video of the protest shows the preacher standing outside the property and speaking through a microphone as several men associated with the mosque move traffic cones inside. He appears to have been there for some time and continues preaching as activity around the property carries on.

The preacher repeatedly criticized Islam and the Quran, at one point describing Muslims as “anti-Christ” and “cursed.” He also appeared to suggest Muslims would go to hell because of their religious beliefs. Those statements reflected his religious views rather than established facts.

His remarks became increasingly inflammatory as the protest continued. The preacher called Islam a “Satanic cult,” compared Muslims to pedophiles, and made insulting remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. He also argued that parents who brought their children to the mosque should have their children taken away.

Posts sharing the footage claimed the mosque eventually shut down its open house because of the protest. However, that claim has not been independently verified, and the video itself does not establish why the event may have ended.

‘Does Nothing for Christianity’: Viewers Split Over Mosque Protest

The preacher found plenty of support after footage of the protest circulated online, with some viewers applauding him for publicly confronting Islam. Others went considerably further.

“Islam doesn’t belong in America,” one person wrote before making several claims about Muslims and arguing that they should be removed from the country.

“More! Shut them all down permanently. They are not welcome here anymore,” one person wrote.

Not everyone watching believed the preacher was helping his cause, however. One viewer questioned what his approach actually accomplished for his own faith.

“This is good for views but it does nothing for Christianity. I doubt he knows that tho,” the commenter wrote.

Another pushed back against the portrayal of Muslims in the video, claiming members of the Muslim community were instead helping local mothers with necessities like food and diapers while criticizing the preacher for relying on familiar attacks against Islam.

Others turned the criticism back toward Christianity, arguing that attacking an entire religion over controversial teachings or the actions of some believers ignored controversies that have existed within Christian institutions as well.

The sharply different reactions showed that viewers weren’t simply debating whether the preacher had a right to stand outside the mosque and speak. They were also arguing over whether his approach was defending Christianity or simply creating more hostility between two religious communities.
