Texas Woman Left Heartbroken After Hispanic Amazon Driver Takes Her Dog, People Defend the Driver: ‘She Was Helping the Dog’

She shouldn’t have taken the dog

Losing a pet is devastating for any owner, and it becomes even more traumatic when someone believes their dog was taken. That is the situation a woman in Texas described in a tearful video asking for help. In the clip, the woman explained that an Amazon delivery driver was dropping off a package to her neighbor when the incident occurred and that, according to her, the driver took her 13-year-old Yorkie, Chance, who had been outside briefly for a potty break. She said she immediately reported the situation and urged Amazon to provide the driver’s information to the Williamson County Police Department, which she had already contacted about the alleged theft. What made the video especially heartbreaking was her statement that her husband is a 100% disabled veteran and that Chance is considered a service animal.

The Texas woman later shared an update confirming that her dog had been returned. About four hours after the incident, the Amazon driver turned Chance over. Despite the woman saying her dog had been taken, many commenters sided with the Amazon driver, suggesting she may have believed the dog was a stray or that she was trying to protect it from an incoming winter storm. Others criticized the woman for mentioning the driver’s ethnicity in the original video, with some even accusing her of being racist. In response, the woman posted another video calling the backlash ridiculous and clarifying that her ex-husband is Hispanic, her two oldest children are Hispanic, and her stepfather is Hispanic as well. She explained that she only mentioned the driver’s ethnicity because she was describing what the driver looked like, not to single her out.

The woman later shared another video, responding to those who argued that the Amazon driver hadn’t stolen the dog but was only trying to save it from the cold. She explained that her dog’s routine is to walk through the front gate into the yard to use the bathroom, meaning there was no reason for the driver to take him, especially since she was delivering a package across the street. She also pointed out that the driver never knocked on any doors to ask whether the dog belonged to someone, which she said would have been the appropriate step to take.

According to the woman, the driver only returned the dog after Amazon became aware of the situation and informed her that police were looking for her. The situation reportedly reflected poorly on the driver, especially after a family member turned the dog in on her behalf instead of her returning it herself. The woman argued that if the driver’s intentions had truly been to protect the dog, she would have first asked nearby neighbors whether the dog belonged to someone before taking it.

People Reacting to the Texas Woman’s Video

Many people didn’t side with the Texas woman and instead defended the Amazon driver. This is why one person said, “13 year old dog outside no one near right before a WINTER storm! She was helping the dog.” Another person then replied, “Right before a storm! Not during! Where do dogs pee? Leave peoples animals alone.” Someone else then justified what the driver did as they wrote, “I’m Hispanic and I would have picked him up too if he was outside in this cold alone. Doesn’t make me or her a bad person. I work and have a lot going on as well but I will never leave my small dog out in the cold alone.” One TikTok user also said, “He was probably outside and she took him thinking he was left outside! I don’t believe this at all! What does hispanic have to do with it ?!”

Some people still agreed with the Texas woman that the driver’s actions constituted theft. One of these people believed that there was nothing wrong with her mentioning that the driver was Hispanic. “If someone has to focus on you describing the person as Hispanic because that’s what they are, instead of the fact he was taken, then there is something wrong with the person making the comment. Sounds like they are the racist one if that’s all they heard. Sorry for the negative…..my fur babies mean the world to me, so glad you hot him back,” they wrote. Another person said, “What on earth is wrong with people these days?? So may Amazon drivers are stealing animals.” It is reasonable to say that the driver should have asked around first before taking the Yorkie.
