A new crime documentary hit Netflix recently, titled The Perfect Neighbor. This documentary shows the events leading up to the murder of a black woman by her white neighbor and gives us insight into how racism in America is very real. Now, a Texas woman is sharing her very real experience involving racism in her own neighborhood. She shares the truth about what she dealt with as a black woman in a white neighborhood and the harassment she dealt with for far too long.
Taylor (@iamtc42) shared a TikTok video captioned, “The perfect neighbor: My experience of racism.” She says at the start of her video, “We gotta talk about how racist white people can’t stand it when a single black woman moves into next to them, or a black family.” She explains that this new Netflix documentary is a lot of black people’s reality in America.
Taylor says that she was single when she built her house in her current Texas neighborhood. From there, she became the topic of conversation in her mostly all-white neighborhood. She claims that they vandalized her property, stuck signs in her yard, and even stalked her on social media. One time, she said they even called the police when she was having a gathering. At the time, she said there was no noise or music playing when this happened.
There came a point where Taylor was fed up with the bullying and harassment from these neighbors. She called the police and they had to assist her. The police told the neighbors, “If you ever talk to her again or say anything to her, you will be arrested.” Taylor said she could never quite understand why they took things so far. She asked, “I have done what to you, except be black and successful?” In the end, she said they acted like this because she was a single black woman living in a nice neighborhood with her own house. They looked at her, wondering how she was so successful without a “man in her house.” It was jealousy and racism, and it could have ended up being dangerous.
As one commenter said on Taylor’s video, “Yes, the jealousy is real. I don’t tell yt coworkers about my international travels bcuz they become infuriated. They found out that I have over 5300 square ft in my home in a nice neighborhood, some of them stopped speaking. The kicker was when my son graduated from medical school, they couldn’t hide their racist jealous mentality. Just continue to do you!” Another person pointed out, “Racist people are so annoying. Like, how can you be mad that anyone is prospering?”
