Very few are happy with the recent rise in prices, so it’s no surprise that people were quite upset when Wendy’s chili was spotted at $6.49 a can in an Oregon Albertsons. “At this price I’d rather eat Wendy’s at Wendy’s,” remarked Blagelandcreamcheese, the Reddit user who shared a photo of the can’s price tag on r/mildlyinfuriating. Hundreds, too, found the cost of the canned chili quite infuriating, some of whom blamed the administration for letting this happen.
Wendy’s chili wasn’t the only grocery item that Blagelandcreamcheese felt strongly concerned about regarding its price. In another post on r/PortlandOR, they recalled how their local New Seasons was selling a pineapple at $7.99. “I walked right out,” they wrote. “They threw tea in the harbor for a lot less.”
Redditors Were Quick to Cast the Blame Over the Expensive Pricing
Commenters were quick to throw politics into the argument. “Thanks MAGA,” growled a Redditor. “Trump did that,” added another. “This crap should be fifty cents. Trash economy we’re in,” remarked a third. A fourth argued that people should blame the beef industry for the hike in costs.
Other people from different states shared the prices of a can of Wendy’s chili in their local stores. For one, it was as low as $4.89, while another took a photo displaying the can’s price tag at $5.49. Whatever the case, almost everyone agreed that such a cost for a can of chili was definitely not worth it. “You could buy ground beef for that price!” exclaimed a commenter.
“Why do I feel like we’re on the brink of a societal collapse? If canned chili is unaffordable, we are well and truly doomed,” sighed a Redditor. Fortunately, not everyone in the comments was giving up hope with all the doom and gloom. One person shared an easy recipe for something similar to Wendy’s chili, with the fresh ingredients likely costing less than the alleged overpriced can.
In these hard times, such helpful comments are a good reminder to always be resourceful and look for solutions rather than immediately fall into the trap of endless complaining. Food prices have definitely increased, but plenty of people are still finding ways to eat their fill and stay healthy at affordable prices.
