‘That’s Nice, but He’s Dead Now’: Washington Homeowner Warns Neighbors to Stop Parking in Deceased Tenant’s Driveway

Would that permission still apply?

A tenant of a local neighborhood in Seattle, Washington, had passed away, so naturally, his home had to be cleared of his belongings. Reddit user K3051, a property management employee, says they arrived with a truck and crew to get started, only to find someone parked in the deceased tenant’s driveway. After realizing the car’s owner was in the house across the street, K3051 went over to demand they move their vehicle but wasn’t ready for an argument with someone entitled to permission from the dead.

An older female retiree emerged from the house across the street and told K3051 that no one was home in the driveway his crew needed to access. OP explained he was there to clear out the home, but the woman denied his claim. After further elaborating why the parked car would need to be towed if it wasn’t moved, the lady made quite the remark: “Well [the previous tenant] was a nice guy and said we could park there.”

The Actual Owner of the Parked Car Was Apologetic and Moved It Without Any Pushback

It’d be hard not to think K3051 was losing patience. They responded to her, saying, ‘That’s nice but he’s dead now and if any cars are parked in this driveway in the future they are getting towed.’” The woman didn’t back down, arguing even more until finally, a man emerged from the house, apologized, and moved the car.

K3051 says they spotted one notable ironic thing about the woman’s home before starting on the hauling. “And of course when I leave I noticed she has a sign on her fence that says ‘No Trespassing’.” Needless to say, Redditors showed no mercy in roasting the woman for her behavior over someone else parking in a deceased tenant’s driveway.

“Tell her you visited the previous tenant at the cemetery and he changed his mind about letting her park there,” joked a user. “If you had a contract it was with him, and it died with him,” remarked another commenter. “Get it towed the next time, because it will happen again. Entitled people never learn without facing the consequences,” said a third.

In the end, the car parked in front of the empty home OP had to work at wasn’t a big deal. The owner was apologetic after all and quickly moved it. Though oddly enough, the older female neighbor allegedly still believed the word of a dead tenant for free parking survived past his life.
