Nothing can stop The Batman or its box office gross. According to a report from Deadline, Warner Bros.’ The Batman has officially surpassed $500 million in global box office gross. The film has specifically taken in $505.8 million as of March 16th. This half billion dollar milestone makes The Batman the fourth highest grossing movie of the pandemic era. However, there is still plenty of time and opportunity for the movie to gross even more in the coming weeks.
The split on The Batman is almost equal. So far, the domestic take has been $258.3 million, while the international take has been $247.5 million. Typically, a blockbuster like The Batman will earn more at the international box office. However, the movie has faced some significant obstacles internationally.
Due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Batman has not been released in Russia, and there are currently no plans for the movie to be released there. The Batman has also not yet been released in China. It is set for release tomorrow, March 18th. However, some areas in China are facing a sizable COVID outbreak, which has forced more than a few cinemas in the country to close their doors.
Despite these setbacks, Toby Emmerich, the Chairman of Warner Bros., shared his thoughts on The Batman‘s performance at the box office, stating:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to see people all over the world enjoying The Batman in theaters. Matt Reeves has delivered an extraordinary film that manages to honor the legacy of this global cultural hero while taking moviegoers into an experience that feels fresh and original. We congratulate Matt, Dylan, Walter, Chantal, Robert and Zoë, and the entire cast and crew on this wonderful benchmark.”
