There’s little you can do to shake off the vengeful dead, and you don’t get much more vengeful or dead than Rin. The Spirit has floated around the top of Dead by Daylight‘s pecking order for years, surpassed only by S-tier movement killers Nurse and Blight. Although Yamaoka’s Haunting grants an incredible burst of speed, it also turns survivors invisible. Every Scratch Mark and ragged breath is now an opportunity to strike. You’ll need keen ears to triumph as Rin, but having the game’s best perks won’t hurt, either. Here are some of the best Spirit builds in Dead by Daylight.

Generic Meta Build

Corrupt InterventionThe Plague
Friends ‘Til the EndThe Good Guy
Scourge Hook: Pain ResonanceThe Artist
Pop Goes the WeaselThe Clown

Spirit isn’t the easiest killer to play due to her 110% speed and the importance of audio cues. With a build this good, however, it almost doesn’t matter. Using three of the best slowdown perks in the game, this build grinds generator progress to a halt. Friends ‘Til the End lets you make the most of that time, using the occasional Aura reveal to find an Exposed survivor. It’s far from original, but you can’t argue with the brute force efficacy of slowdown like this.

Corrupt Intervention blocks the three generators farthest from you at the start of the Trial, letting you find a chase and down someone before you lose your first gen. Friends ‘Til the End reveals your Obsession’s Aura and Exposes them when you hook a different survivor. Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance damages the generator with the most progress when you hook a unique survivor on a Scourge Hook. Pop Goes the Weasel heavily damages the first generator you kick after hooking a survivor. Together, these oppressive perks can throw a wrench in even the best Survive With Friends team.

Aggressive Build

Lethal PursuerThe Nemesis
Barbeque & ChilliThe Cannibal
Hex: No One Escapes DeathGeneric
No Way OutThe Trickster

What makes The Spirit one of the game’s best killers is her incredible chase power. This build leans into that, minimizing your downtime between chases and offering a deadly end game. Although Rin can’t see Auras while phasing, she can use the intel from Barbeque to track isolated survivors after every hook. This build is good for disrupting generator progress, but even if all the gens are finished, all is not lost. NOED and No Way Out can turn even the most dire Trial around with a bit of slugging.

Lethal Pursuer reveals the Auras of all survivors at the start of the Trial and increases the duration of other Aura reads. Barbeque & Chilli reveals the Auras of distant survivors when you hook someone, allowing you to phase across the map for instant chases. Hex: No One Escapes Death grants you a 4% speed boost and the ability to insta-down survivors when the last generator is completed. It’s made even more deadly by No Way Out which temporarily blocks the exit gate switches. After plenty of aggressive chases, being Exposed by Rin is the last thing survivors will want.

Basic Build

A Nurse’s CallingThe Nurse
Hex: Haunted GroundsThe Spirit
Sloppy ButcherGeneric
Hex: No One Escapes DeathGeneric

Preying upon vulnerable survivors is always a good idea for killers, and this build helps you do just that. With Sloppy increasing heal times and Nurse’s Calling revealing survivors when they heal, free downs are a given. The double Exposure combo of Haunted and NOED means that even healthy survivors aren’t safe. Despite being made of common perks, this is one of the best Spirit builds in Dead by Daylight. With two Hexes on board, it’s a bit inconsistent, but there’s no disputing its power when everything clicks.

A Nurse’s Calling reveals the Auras of survivors healing and being healed. Hex: Haunted Ground exposes all survivors when one of its two totems is cleansed. Sloppy Butcher slows healing speeds and causes incomplete heals to regress. Hex: No One Escapes Death grants you a 4% speed boost and the ability to insta-down survivors when the last generator is completed. With this build, healthy and injured survivors alike will find no safety. For an avenging spirit like Rin, that’s exactly as it should be.
