The wait is over, and many will be jumping into Wreaclast for the hundredth or even the first time. However, one of the most challenging choices before delving into this perilous world is choosing which adventurer you’ll take with you. With six classes to pick from in Path of Exile 2, choosing the right one to start with might be daunting. To ease things up, we’ve made a quick guide to help you choose two of the ones we think are the best.

[This guide contains information from Path of Exile 2’s early access launch and will be updated once new classes arrive]

As a quick disclaimer, we picked two classes we believe are great, especially for newcomers. This shouldn’t be a definitive choice, and it will not be one aimed at meta players. Plus, it is too early to say which classes will dominate, so think of this as a helping hand for new arrivals. So, with that out of the way, let’s see which are the two that might feel a bit less overwhelming for new exiles.

The Ranger

While we could rank all classes based on how great they are for starting Path of Exile 2, we decided to go with two, and we’ll begin with the Ranger. In terms of accessibility, this class should be great for newcomers who might find PoE 2 a bit daunting. It boasts a lot of mobility, it is great at damaging from afar, and according to what we’ve seen, it seems like the gameplay loop might not be too complicated. However, that might also be an understatement because we all know just how deep PoE goes.

Furthermore, the Ranger has some interesting Ascendancies that might be great for all types of players. If you want to focus on shooting without messing with stats much, go for Deadeye. However, if you prefer DoT effects and killing enemies as they approach you, the trap-based gameplay of Pathfinder is great. Regardless, Ranger seems like an excellent choice if it is your first time playing the game.

The Witch

There is no easy mode in Path of Exile 2, but the Witch can certainly give you that placebo as your starting class. While it isn’t the best of them all, this class has a few gimmicks that might help new players, mainly the minions. This and the Mercenary can summon minions to fight for them. However, the Witch seems to be the easier option to pick as her gameplay is a bit more straightforward.

Beyond that, the Witch has an Ascendancy that focuses on making your minions even better. By going down the Infernalist road, you can summon a Hellhound that will tank some of the damage. It won’t make your Witch immortal, but it will certainly provide more survivability. Also, there is an option to become a demon, so that’s another point in favor of the Witch.

Ultimately, you should pick whichever class you prefer. The one true rule of an ARPG is to go for the one that works best for you. Still, these two should help you get the hang of the game, especially if it’s your first time in the genre. And if you ever feel you’re not that into the class you chose, you can pick another one and delve into this almost endless game.
