The Bold and the Beautiful is one of daytime television’s most popular soap operas. It has been part of the CBS lineup since 1987. Throughout its 37 seasons on the air, it has gained a loyal fanbase and received numerous awards. Yet, in recent years, the soap opera has garnered criticism for its dull storytelling. So when the show dominated the 2024 Daytime Emmy nominations, it shocked many fans.
The Bold and the Beautiful Fans Disagree With the Daytime Emmy Nominations
In a surprising turn of events, The Bold and the Beautiful lead this year’s Daytime Emmy nominations. According to TV Insider, the CBS soap opera earned 12 nominations. As expected, it received nods for Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Drama Series. But it’s the acting categories that the show domineered.
Seven of the show’s cast members scored acting nods. John McCook, Thorsten Kaye, and Scott Clifton reigned supreme in the Lead Actor category, while Katherine Kelly Lang and Annika Noelle earned Lead Actress spots. Jennifer Gareis received her first Daytime Emmy nomination for Supporting Actress, while Ashley Jones’ brief return scored her a Guest Performer nod.
While viewers would normally be excited to see the show get some well-deserved recognition, others were critical of the nominees. On a Soaps.com forum, many fans disagreed with the acting nominations.
One fan wrote:
I wonder what reels they submitted because I can’t think of anything noteworthy for some of these noms.
Another commenter agreed with the poster:
KKL I can’t think of a single thing nomination worthy, SC maybe the break up with AN that was the best he had been in a while and Eric’s death was meh and TK I’m drawing a blank for anything stand out.
One viewer blamed the writing more than the acting:
I so agree with you…there has not been one scene where I have been riveted to the TV in anticipation of something great…even, I have to be honest from my girl Steffy this time. I don’t think the story lines are doing them any favors.
Although most fans believe there wasn’t any worthy material last year, The Bold and the Beautiful did deliver heartbreaking scenes. One of the biggest storylines was Hope Logan divorcing Liam Spencer to be with Thomas Forrester. Viewers saw Hope transform from a good girl to an independent woman.
Another story that was front and center was Eric Forrester almost dying. The cast gave gut-wrenching performances as Eric’s health worsened and the Forresters feared he wouldn’t make it.
While viewers might not have liked the stories or the performances, the academy thought it was worthy of a nomination. As for whether one of these actors or actresses could win the award, anything is possible.
