Actress Mishael Morgan of The Young and the Restless makes a historical Daytime Emmy win as the first black woman to win best lead actress in a daytime drama. Mishael’s work as Amanda Sinclair on The Young and the Restless earned her this iconic award Friday night at the 49th annual Daytime Emmy awards. Since joining the long-running CBS soap opera in 2013, Y&R’s Mishael Morgan’s win a critically important moment in history for daytime television stars.

When Y&R’s Mishael Morgan was announced as the winner of the Daytime Emmy for Best Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama, the actress got a standing ovation from the crowd. As she took to the stage, Morgan began her acceptance speech to thank her family and friends as well as talk about her upbringing and the significance of her historic win.
“I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do,” she said. “Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation … they can strive to be the best.”
“I need to thank the fans and everybody sitting at home,” the actress said. “They embraced me when I came on this show and I am so immensely proud of our generation. We are breaking glass ceilings left right and center and I am so honored to be a vessel and to experience this moment. Everybody out there today, we can do this thing called equality and unity together.”
