Amazon is home to one of the most extreme shows in TV history with The Boys. The third season has pushed the bar, unlike previous seasons, and The Boys Herogasm episode had a scene that was almost cut. Eric Kripke, the showrunner and creator of the series, revealed to TV Line that Amazon executives had a problem with one bestiality scene with The Deep (Chase Crawford).
“We had a lot of discussion this season about the scene with Deep and the octopus,” Kripke said on the bestiality scene in The Boys Herogasm episode. “For some crazy reason, Standards has a policy against bestiality. They’re so uptight, really. The discussion of that scene and how we pulled off that scene actually triggered a lot of alarm bells at a lot of different levels at Amazon because you’re not supposed to show people f–king animals, and I get it.”
The showrunner won in the end, and the world got to see Starlight (Erin Moriarty) walk in on Deep having fun with an octopus. It took convincing, and Kripke’s pitch was heard and accepted.
“My pitch to them was always like it’s so absurd [that] it wouldn’t be out of place in a Farrelly brothers movie,” he said. “So it’s hard to call it prurient bestiality. It’s ridiculous. To my knowledge, I don’t even think octopi have orifices down there. So there was a lot of discussion of like what are the shots, and what can we do and what can we get away with?”
The Boys Herogasm scene was only the first bestiality scene
The conversations about what to cut must have a high bar for the series, as it has had everything from superpowered ejaculations to a dildo fight scene earlier in the season. While Amazon was hesitant on bestiality, it worked out as the following episode, Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed. The Deep tried convincing his wife, Cassandra Schwartz (Katy Breier), to have a threesome, except rather than having another man or woman, he wanted an octopus. She was disgusted and called it quits. Now, the hero is possibly left without a marriage to prop him up after his sexual assault on Starlight came to light in the show’s debut season.
The Boys episode Herogasm premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 24. It was based on a spinoff comic in 2009 by Garth Ennis, John McCrea, and Keith Burns. The six-issue spinoff focused on the annual superhero orgy.
Season 3 ends this week with its finale, The Instant White-Hot Wild. From The Boys Herogasm to all its other episodes that felt like rollercoasters, it has a lot to offer fans in brutality, drama, and hilarity. It can all be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
