Streaming giant Netflix and ‘The Crown’ producer Left Bank have discussed the possibilities of ‘The Crown’ Prequel coming to life. Sources confirmed today the two have been in early conversation about a prequel to the popular British Royal Drama. If ‘The Crown’ prequel were to come to fruition, it would most likely cover a period of social, political, and cultural upheaval and transformation, as the Daily Mail has described. This new installment would reportedly cover the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 to where the current first series began with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip marrying in 1947.
This “prequel” time period covers the reign of four kings in 50 years: Edward VII (1901-10), George V (1910-36), Edward VIII (1936), and George VI (1936-52). This 50 year time period would also cover two World Wars and a global pandemic. As shown in the Daily Mail, some topics that could be tackled in ‘The Crown’ Prequel include The Death of Queen Victoria and the rise of Edward VII in 1901, the 1908 Olympic Games in London, the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 and the rise of the women’s suffrage movement as well as much more that went on between 1901 and 1947.
Netflix’s ‘The Crown’

The series famously switches its lead star after every two seasons, and the formula has more than worked.
