The biggest fighting game tournament in the world, Evo 2023, has concluded with some nail-biters for every single fighting game. But Street Fighter 6 was the main event and did not disappoint. With over 7,000 competitors from all over the world, the level of competition was unprecedented. But apart from the competitive side, there was a lot of fighting game news shared, one of the biggest announcements being the new character reveal for the poison user A.K.I. for Street Fighter 6 Season 1 DLC.
For anyone who has been following Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 reveals, A.K.I. should not come as a surprise because Capcom already confirmed the four Season 1 DLC characters. These include Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and the highly anticipated Akuma. But what is surprising, is that A.K.I. got a reveal so soon after the release of Rashid of the turbulent wind.
The reveal trailer unfortunately doesn’t show any gameplay, merely giving a taste of what she will look like in the Street Fighter 6 world tour mode. But even so, this is the first in-game footage we’ve seen so far, and she seems every bit as insane as expected.
A.K.I. Revealed for Street Fighter 6 During Evo 2023
Prior rumors had suggested that A.K.I. would be a poison user like F.A.N.G. This is not only because their names follow a similar format, but also because at the end of Street Fighter V’s story mode, F.A.N.G. is seen taking a young Chinese girl with her as her apprentice, and that is almost undoubtedly A.K.I.
Her character design from the single image Capcom revealed did not do her justice. Seeing her in action shows she has a lot more personality than that. While her gameplay details haven’t been officially released, it is very likely that she fights a lot like F.A.N.G., using her constant thread of poison as a tool to make her opponents approach her.
Capcom has not confirmed exactly when A.K.I. is coming out, but what we do know is that she’ll be added to the game sometime in spring. As for the other DLC characters for Season 1 of Street Fighter 6, Ed is planned for fall 2023 or early 2024 while Akuma is coming in summer 2024. Let’s hope none of them break the game like Rashid did.
