It’s finally time, Guardians. The last TWID before the expansion’s release, and, well, it is kind of a bittersweet one. On the one hand, Bungie has unveiled the name of the raid coming to Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate. On the other hand, The Edge of Fate is nerfing, nay, giganerfing the Recuperation perk. While there is a stat that will make up for this nerf when the expansion launches, everyone’s raid race loadout got hit badly, making a lot of Guardians lose their cool before landing on Kepler.
The Desert Perpetual Is The Name of the New Raid in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate
There’s a lot to go over in today’s TWID, but we’ll focus on two important things: The Desert Perpetual raid and the Recuperation nerfs coming to Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate. Yes, I know the nerf is a big deal, I’ll get to it soon. In case you want to check everything coming in this last post before the expansion’s launch, here’s the link. And now, let’s move to the raid.
Bungie has kept many things under cover for this expansion, and with good reason. The Edge of Fate will kick off a new era for the game, and Kepler will play a huge role in that. Naturally, the raid will be as important, and so far, we finally have its name: The Desert Perpetual. What do we know about it? Absolutely nothing. Bungie is still keeping everything a secret, and well, we have to roll with it. Fortunately, it won’t be long until we see it or experience it because, with a new raid comes a new raid contest.
Assuming you don’t know what that is, the raid will launch in contest mode, available for 48 hours. If you want to be the most Guardian of Guardians, you can enter the World First race. For those wondering about how to be contest mode-ready, Bungie has confirmed that finishing the campaign on Legendary difficulty will get you there, so focus on that activity if you want to enter the raid as soon as possible. If you’re a mortal like me, just go and watch all the streamers that will be fighting for the ultimate title in Destiny 2.
Recuperation Just Got Nerfed to the Ground

Let’s address the giganerf in the room because there is no way of sugarcoating it. While everyone is excited about the new raid of Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, that excitement might disappear as soon as they know the Recuperation armor mod got one of the worst nerfs we’ve seen. Don’t worry, though. It isn’t the end of the world, at least for us who don’t participate in the World First race. Before delving into the mayhem that’s haunting the community, here’s what Bungie had to say about the mod:
Our goal is for Recuperation to remain a helpful pick for more aggressive subclasses and builds without other access to healing. However, its current impact on one of the most fundamental problems Guardians face does not match its low cost, so weโve reduced its impact.
Bungie’s TWID of July 10
Then, Bungie unveiled the world-ending (according to some players) nerf:
- Reduced the healing granted by collecting an Orb of Power with the Recuperation armor mod equipped from 70 to 15.
As you can see, going from 70 to 15 is a lot. As someone who finally got a perfect build that works with this mod, yeah, it hurts. But, fellow Guardians, it isn’t the end. Remember, there are many armor changes, including new stats, that will mitigate this nerf. For instance, the Health stat will do some of the stuff that Recuperation did, meaning there are other ways to keep your HP topped up. However, it definetely puts raid-ready players in a predicament. As we know, many have been working on creating the best loadout for the raid, so this nerf will really hit hard and affect a lot of builds for players.
Personally, I like this change as it incentivizes the use of the Health stat. As someone who’s looking forward to the armor rework, I don’t see this as something bad. Still, most Guardians whose builds used this mod might not be too positive about it. Then again, we’ll have to see how everything works once the expansion launches.
This TWID marks the end of the road to The Edge of Fate, and next week we’ll all be in Kepler for the first time. Remember to prepare for the expansion’s launch. We have a few tips here that might help. And if you’re ready for it, then just double-check your loadout, drip, and classes because we’re only a few sleeps away from this game’s next era.
