The Final Shape Marked the End of Destiny 2, But Episodes Are Only the Beginning

Okay, so that’s way more than I was expecting

As we approached The Final Shape, we all knew that it would essentially be the end of the Destiny 2 story as we knew it, and the future of Sol wasn’t clear. Would a new Destiny game come out? Would end story and game just essentially end and stop progressing? We had no clue. Well, until today, that is. Bungie just released a video detailing The Journey Ahead, and honestly, it seems like The Final Shape was only the beginning.

At the end of the Salvation’s Edge Raid, we finally got to put an end to the Witness once and for all. But, it turns out that even though he’s gone now, the impact he left on Sol is still very much alive, which is where the first Episode comes into play. After The Final Shape, since the main story would no longer be a thing, we were going to lose the seasonal structure altogether and it would be replaced by an episodic structure, in which each Episode will tell its own standalone story that will build up to the future of Destiny 2.

Our first Episode is called Echoes, which ties perfectly into the story behind The Final Shape. After the Witness died, the collision of both Darkness and Light created Echoes that spread out throughout Sol. The first act of Episode: Echoes takes on to Nessus, where we find that the first Echo has entirely turned the planet into something much different than what it’s supposed to be.

We’ll see loads of new activities in this strange standalone story that begins with the Breach: Executable arena-style activity. With this activity and the remainder of the Nessus Echoes content, we’ll learn and experience how much the Vex have changed due to this Echo being on their planet, that even includes a whole new type of enemy that’s something entirely different than we’ve seen thus far.

Beyond Echoes, we’ll experience Revenant, which is much more focused on Fallen rather than Vex and leaned pretty hard into vampire hunter vibes as you collaborate with the Eliksni.

During the Episode, we’ll also get to experience a whole new system called Potion Crafting that allows us to create combat potions that will directly boost our Artifact, as well as Loot Potions that give us a bit of choice when it comes to what kind of rewards we get.

Fast forward to Heresy, and we’ll get to see more focus on the Hive Pantheon and some interesting new discoveries that have happened with them. There’s a new Eldritch force that’s creating a big problem and it’s not only affecting the Hive themselves, but all of Sol, in the sense that that’ll take us back to the Dreadnaught where we find the Episode finale.

Overall, it seems like there’s a whole lot more coming in Destiny 2 than any of us would have expected to see after the campaign story come to an end.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
