To this day, I feel we have too many FPS games. Still, that doesn’t mean there’s isn’t room to fight. And that’s precisely what The Finals tries to do with Season 3 and the trip to Kyoto Valley, Japan. If you missed the announcement for the third season of this Hunger Games-like shooter, allow me to tell you one thing: it is the perfect time to return. I might be biased due to my “weeb-ness,” but golly, the new maps, weapons, skins, and other additions look amazing.
All contestants can jump into The Finals Season 3 on June 13 and get those katanas, bows, and other Japanese-inspired cosmetics ready for a fight. While we know the playerbase decreased extremely fast after the game’s launch, that doesn’t mean this FPS is dead. On the contrary, the developers are focusing on bringing tactical fun to everyone. According to the game’s official page on Steam, the studio wants to emphasize a more tactical and competitive experience for players, and I think that’s the right direction.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a filthy casual. I’ll install one game, get a few cosmetics, get my butt handed to me, and jump into another game. That’s how I roll. But those who stick around need a bit extra. They need the thrill of the fight, and nothing gets one’s competitive side going harder than in ranked mode. Furthermore, the new bow weapons, katanas, spears, and more will only pave the way for the satisfying destruction we all enjoy. How long players will stick around the season remains a mystery, but I hope they stay for a while. The Finals‘ concept is amazing and something fresh in a saturated market. Yet, it needs to get updates out faster or a better way to retain players.
Still, this seems like a step in the right direction. A small look at the game’s subreddit can tell you the feedback is beyond positive. Fans can’t wait to jump back into the game after some stale weeks. Heck, even I will jump back in to see how I fare against the many veteran contestants of The Finals in this colorful battleground in Japan. Hopefully, the season will hook the player base and make way for even grander updates in the future.
