You’ll hit the Pyromaniac as soon as completing all the primary missions on the White-night Gulch in The First Descendant. Fighting this boss is a Scorpion X Hades from God of War 3 contest, and as the name suggests, Pyromaniac is here to burn ’em all; including your precious Descendant. However, as strong as his powers are, the Pyromaniac Colossi is so easy to defeat if you choose the right Descendant and figure out the attack patterns. Everything you need to know about beating this boss is here in this no-nonsense The First Descendant guide.
Pyromaniac Colossi Attack Pattern
The Pyromaniac does not have different phases to turn into. The boss does and repeats the exact same attacks throughout the fight, and even if you break his shield, he won’t be regenerating health or spawning attachments. However, he does summon humanoid birds at his tail, which won’t do him any good and they’re fairly easy to shoot down.
Descendant, let’s review all the variable Pyromaniac attacks and moves:
- Fireshot: This is the basic attack that Pyromaniac does the most. He’s got a huge gun in his hand, shooting fire rounds at a very slow fire rate. That means you can easily dodge behind the covers using your grappling hook.
- Blade Attack: Another basic attack by Pyromaniac in The First Descendant is the one where he hits the ground with his blade. If he gets you, you’re dead in one swing. But the move is so slow and you can see it coming from a mile.
- Flamethrower: Probably the worst attack by a Colossi so far, Pyromaniac using his flamethrower gives you no chance even if you’re standing behind a cover. The only solution to this is to get as far as you can.
- Flameballs: If you’re playing to annoy the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, he’ll summon a few fireballs to chase and burn you. The movement of these flame orbs is slow, and you can get away from them by reaching high grounds or just using your grappling hook to stay far.
- Reset-Attack: If you and your teammate deal a colossal amount of damage to the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, he’ll respawn you all. However, upon touching the ground, you’ll find yourself right in the middle of a fire circle that’s about to blow. If you stay, you die. A double dodge to any direction or using your grappling hook to get away would easily work.
- Hellchains: This is what makes the Pyromaniac boss fight in The First Descendant so annoying to defeat. The big inferno summons three-line chains on the battlefield, and all you can do to dodge them is to jump.
How To Defeat The Pyromaniac in The First Descendant
Learned everything about how Pyromaniac fights, Descendant? It’s time to figure out countermeasures to this Colossi. As always, there are certain ways to defeat bosses like the Pyromaniac as a team or solo in The First Descendant.
Fight Fire With Ice
The best thing to do against an enemy is to know their weaknesses. Pyromaniac is a fire-based Colossi, and that means if you somehow manage to pin him down with coldness, tables would turn. That’s where Viessa comes into play. This Descendant is capable of dealing a massive amount of damage to the Pyromaniac using Ice, which is the opposite of what the boss favors.
Weak Spots, Obviously
If you’re playing on a controller, shooting bosses like the Pyromaniac would be much easier. The aim assist on the controllers is designed to hit the Colossi’s weak spots, which is how you can deal the most amount of damage. Pyro boss is weak when you shoot him in the shoulder and chest.
Frenzy Take Down
A few minutes after the Pyromaniac boss fights in The First Descendant, he goes crazy. This is what you’d call the “Frenzy Mode” when fighting a Colossi, where they’ll be immune to your attacks. However, there’s a crystal on Pyromaniac’s back, which is the weak spot of this boss when he’s using full power in this type of situation.
Dodge And Never Look Back
Pyro is only targeting you as if he’s got some personal bad blood? Run away. If you think you can stay behind a cover and then peak to fight back against this boss, you’re wrong. Being knocked in this battle only costs time and energy from both you and your teammates. And the Pyromaniac is not a Colossi that stops shooting you if you’re hiding behind covers. Just go away, and get back as soon as he’s done targeting you.
Don’t Forget About The Kingfishes
In almost every single Void Intercept mission in The First Descendant, there are some pesky bots on the map, spawned to annoy the players even more. Do you get knocked without the boss even targeting you? Yeah, it’s them. These are called the Kingfishes and the sooner you kill them the better.
