The original launch for The Good Life was in Q4 of 2019. It received a very successful Kickstarter campaign with more than 12,000 backers. However, it was delayed to Spring 2020 last July. In an update on the game’s Kickstarter page, Swery stated it was so the team could deliver the game in the best condition possible. It was next seen during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase in March. Though it seems development has taken longer than planned as it missed the Spring 2020 launch window.
What Is The Good Life?
The Good Life follows Naomi Hayward, a New York-based photographer who moves to the quaint English town of Rainy Woods. After accumulating too many debts, Naomi will do part-time photography work and other odd jobs to pay them off. The game will utilize the gameplay of life simulation titles, allowing you to grow your own garden and accomplish quirky tasks for the town’s citizens. You can even acquire a pet sheep to ride through town.
But there is something much darker lurking underneath the friendly façade of The Good Life. Naomi will uncover a mystery, which includes shapeshifting citizens. You will use Naomi’s detective skills and investigative photojournalism to solve the mystery. But as the trailer shows, Naomi will also unlock the ability to transform into a cat and a dog. Each form will seemingly have its own strengths that will bring you closer to solving the town’s secrets.
The Good Life launches in the Summer of 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
