Tickets for one of the biggest eSports events of the year will go on sale next week. The International, Valve’s biggest tournament for Dota 2, takes place in Seattle August 8-13. Fans who want to watch the action live will be able to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster starting April 7th. To accompany the growing popularity of the event, Valve has changed a few things up from previous tournaments.
This year, two different types of tickets are being offered. The first is called the Midweek ticket. It will cost $75, and will allow fans to see the first four days of action. The Finals ticket will go for $100, and fans will gain access to the last two days of the event to see a new champion crowned. Valve will provide an outdoor viewing area for those who only buy the Midweek ticket but still want to watch the end of the tournament on site. However, they are incentivizing the Finals tickets by offering, of course, exclusive in-game cosmetic items. At First Blood of every game during the last two days of competition, 500 “exclusive attendee treasures” will drop. However, you must be inside the arena to be eligible for these rewards. For more details, you can check out Valve’s official FAQ for the International 2016.
Last year’s International top prize was taken by Evil Geniuses, and they were awarded a cool $6.6 million for their efforts. As eSports continue to grow, the prizes and competition will only follow suit. As always, The International will be available to watch for free through various streaming outlets. Stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for more details as they become available.
