In one week’s time, the biggest gaming expo of the year will be in full swing. We’ll have already watched most of the press conferences and our wallets will be itching to release vast amounts of money at consoles and games. But one game in particular has eluded us since 2009, a game that many have been aching to get their hands on, only to be disappointed year after year.
Well, if The Guardian’s story on E3 is any indication, we will finally witness the reappearance of PlayStation’s The Last Guardian.
Remember The Last Guardian? It’s hard to judge the reactions people have when they hear about this game. Developed by the same team that released ICO and Shadow of the Colossus on PS2, The Last Guardian first appeared at the Sony press conference in 2009, only to then cascade into development hell. Delays struck the game, a core developer left Team Ico, and the game was never heard from again, except for smokescreens by Sony claiming that they were still “diligently working on it” or “waiting for the right time” to release new information. Up to this point it wouldn’t be surprising for any gamer to lose hope.
However, with The Guardian’s claim, it looks like there’s a good chance Sony finally is ready to unveil something new. The question is – does anyone care anymore?
If The Last Guardian is finally ready to be shown again, it’ll most likely have been moved from the PS3 to the PS4. Thanks to a podcast by PS Nation, we’re also told that a key architect on the Vita and PS4 is helping to finish development of the game. Most likely this means that Mark Cerny and his team are assisting with the game, if the rumors are indeed true.
What do you think about the possibility of once again seeing The Last Guardian? Have you held hope for the last six years? Or is it too little(or should I say long?), too late? Let us know in the comments.
