Just in time for the release of the first season of The Long Dark’s story mode. Wintermute. comes the launch trailer for the mode that sheds some light on exactly what happened to the world prior to it being plunged it into darkness. At the same time comes equally exciting news that Resident Evil director, Jeremy Bolt, is looking to develop a film based on The Long Dark property.
First things first, the launch trailer for The Long Dark story mode hints at what can be expected in the first two episodes of the first season that will launch together on August 1st, 2017. Dubbed the quiet apocalypse at the end of the trailer because all technology has been destroyed by way of a geomagnetic event, the story will focus on bush pilot Will MacKenzie navigating a cold desolate corner of northern Canada where survivors are few but dangerous wildlife isn’t. We learn that there was some turmoil in the early days after the disaster as humanity came to grips with this new reality. MacKenzie is also tied to Doctor Astrid Greenwood although the extent of their relationship is unknown but appears to predate the event that began the chaos. The first two episodes of the story mode for The Long Dark release on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
The Long Dark news doesn’t stop as Hinterland Games, the developer behind the title also announced that a film based on the game is in development with Resident Evil’s Bolt. The script will be penned by Hinterland founder Raphael van Lierop who also wrote and directed the video game. The whet the appetite for what a movie based on The Long Dark might look like, a short film was called Elegy created. The five-minute teaser was directed by Jared Pelletier (In the Hearts of Men) and features the voice-over work of Oscar winner Christopher Plumber (A Beautiful Mind, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).
