The FBI recently raided a Beverly Hills mansion connected to former Rep. Eric Swalwell. The raid sparked a wave of criticism against the Democratic California politician online, as many users believed he had something to hide.
As reported by CNN, the FBI searched the mansion owned by political donor Stephen Cloobeck. The raid was reportedly connected to ongoing investigations into Swalwell. At the time of this report, it was unclear what federal agents were looking for or whether they seized anything.
Between 2023 and 2026, Swalwell served as a Democratic U.S. representative from California. He resigned in April 2026 amid allegations of sexual misconduct, including a claim by a former staffer that he sexually assaulted her. He has reportedly been under investigation since then.
In August, the FBI reportedly seized electronic devices from Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport and then raided his home in Washington, DC. It appears that the investigation is not over.
Internet Criticizes Eric Swalwell After Raid
The raid on the Beverly Hills mansion sparked a firestorm online, with many right-wing commentators criticizing Swalwell. The Democrat was a fierce critic of the Republican Party and has faced backlash from Republicans since the scandal emerged.
One profile called American Papa Bear, for example, wrote: “He has been awfully quiet since his dishonorable departure from Congress. The loudest ones are often times the most guilty. And he was LOUD! Can’t wait to see this play out.”
Eric Daugherty also commented that the situation was “getting serious” and that “everything was crashing down” on the Democrat. Many of his readers expressed similar criticism of Swalwell. One of them wrote: “That’s a HUGE MANSION. Where did that money come from? Let me guess. The American people.”
Others added: “Finally, we can have some accountability for these criminals who have been flaunting their crimes in front of the American people.” A seemingly Republican voter wrote: “Can’t wait to see who else is involved that’s a dem.”
However, not everyone was keen to make this a partisan issue. One person argued that anyone suspected of committing crimes should face the law: “I believe every member of Congress and the Senate, Republicans and Democrats alike, should be investigated. No one should be above the law, no matter which party they belong to. Follow the money.”
It remains to be seen whether evidence against Swalwell will emerge as the investigation continues.
