You might remember EA’s skateboarding game series Skate from PlayStation 3. The series’ latest game was released in 2010; we’ve not heard about the series so far. After years, EA announced Skate 4, reborn for the series. Details are slowly getting clear about the game, and one more point appeared too. Electronic Arts says Skate will be a free-to-play game, and that’s the game’s final name.
Like what they did with Apex Legends, the company wants to earn money from in-game purchases. This strategy is getting more expansive in the industry; Fortnite, Fall Guys, COD: Warzone and the others are good examples of that. But is that strategy a good thing for gamers?
The New Skate Game Will Be Free-To-Play
If you remember, the game’s development version was leaked last week. EA announced that the leaked playtest is illegal to play and distribute, and they started the sign-ups for the official playtest program. The game was named Skate 4 on the leaked playtest, but now they prefer not to give a number to the name.
You might be afraid of EA’s pay-to-win strategy. But they say Skate’s in-game purchases will be primarily cosmetic, which means players can’t improve their character by paying for the game. That strategy is similar to most FPS games like CS: GO, VALORANT and Warzone. And it could bring a fair play to the game if EA wants.
So, the game’s price is unclear. But its release date hasn’t been confirmed just yet. We heard the game jumped into the development process last year, so we’re not so close to the final version. But a playtest program allows you to play the unfinished version. We can count it as a huge milestone and hope the game will be released in early 2023. Keep that in mind because EA doesn’t want you to call it a sequel.
What are your expectations from Skate? Are you planning to play the new game?
